WHO WE ARE

We are fighting for a society without class exploitation and oppression. Where decisions about what to produce, and how to produce and distribute it, are made democratically. We want to build a world where everyone has a right to food, healthcare, a good home, an enriching education, and a union job that pays well. We think this kind of world is necessary for people to live rich and creative lives — and to be truly free.

The world we live in violates any reasonable standard of justice and decency. A tiny number of rich and powerful families live off the profits they make from trashing the environment and underpaying, overworking, and cheating the vast majority of society — the working class. They get richer precisely because the rest of us get poorer.

For decades, we've been told what we can't have: A decent living, a home of your own, a comfy retirement — in short, a meager share in our society's immense collective wealth. We believe it is time to take back up these promises.

But moral outrage is not enough to change the world. Democratic socialists also have a strategy to break the power of capitalists and the bosses who do their bidding: we see a united, militant working class as the leading force for radical social change.

HOW WE WORK

Lehigh Valley DSA is volunteer-run and member-funded. Our organization relies on the commitment and consistent work of our members. We are one chapter of the largest socialist organization in America with close to 90,000 members nationwide. And with several ongoing campaigns and initiatives, over one hundred and ten (110) of our local members and regular weekly activity, there is plenty of work that goes into our day-to-day operations.

CAMPAIGNS

Our capacity to run campaigns is dependent on natural leaders from our community ready to organize the effort and our active members to show up and do the work. Socialism offers guiding principles to our campaigns wherever the plight of workers is most dire and/or where victory to win back the fruits of our labor is ripe for the taking. LV DSA is involved in the following campaigns:

  • Emergency Response Network (ERN) - community led rapid response to presence of I.C.E. in the Lehigh Valley. Focus on 3 immigration needs: rapid response, legal and other direct aiding, and policy/mobilization. The Emergency Hotline Number (610) 850-9930 is active with bi-lingual dispatchers from 6AM - 6PM Monday - Friday; report all and any suspected presence and we will respond to confirm and deescalate their illegal terror campaign.

  • Electoral Work - We endorse local candidates (ex., Natalie Santos and Nadeem Qayyum)! As a part of our efforts we door knock, show up to city and county council meetings to support our candidates, and help get the message out. This is ongoing and ever evolving with a large capacity for involvement. CONGRATS MAMDANI!!!

  • Founding member of the Lehigh Valley Palestine Coalition fighting for Palestinian Liberation.

  • Founding member of the Lehigh Valley Emergency Response Network (ERN) fighting ICE and fighting for immigration justice.

  • Help Not Handcuffs (2023), fighting for a non-police mental health first response option in Allentown.
